Pre-K January Class Update

Happy January!

Pre-Kindergarten had a very busy end to 2018! We talked a lot about holidays in December and how we celebrate with our friends and families. We had a big surprise at the beginning of the month; Frosty the Snowman from the North Pole! He showed up in fun places all around our classroom each morning! We weren’t allowed to touch him though or he would lose his magic powers! It was so fun to see all the silliness Frosty got into.

Pre-K sang beautifully at our Winter Program. I was so proud of great they were on stage. We did many holiday crafts throughout the month of December and we had a blast at our party to kick off our winter break. We worked on holding our pencils and we spent lots of time cutting with scissors. We loved making big paper chains as a class to help decorate our room for the holidays.

We are excited to to start our Restaurants project in January! We will be talking about things like our favorite restaurants, things we notice in restaurants, and about good manners in restaurants. We will be practicing how to act in restaurants in our dramatic play center.

I look forward to seeing you all at our Open House on February 7th! I am excited to share all about Pre-K at Rohan Woods!

Best,

Pre-K November Update

I cannot believe November is already here! Our Pre-Kindergarten friends had a fabulous Halloween filled with treats, games, costumes, and fun. We also had Grandparents’ Day this October, a visit from Glendale firefighters to talk about fire safety, the Scholastic Book Fair, and an author visitor who read us her new book!

Pre-Kindergartners have been practicing their counting and numbers quite a bit! During calendar time, we have been focusing on the days of the week and using words like today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Pre-Kindergarten friends also learned about the four seasons, but we concentrated on fall. We talked about how leaves change color and things we might find outside during the season. Our students also are enjoying learning about the five senses and how we utilize all of them each day.

We also have been practicing our letters and reading lots of books. Pre-Kindergarteners have been thinking about what might happen next in a story, how a character might be feeling, and what the solution was to the problem.

I am amazed by how much our Pre-K friends are developing and I am excited to see them continue to grow these next couple of months. Pre-Kindergarteners can’t wait to show off our classroom and our activities at our Open House on Tuesday, November 6th from 9-11 AM. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Best,

Jessica Kittler

Pre-Kindergarten September Update!

We have had a very busy and fun few weeks of school so far! These young friends have been quickly learning their new routines and are getting accustomed to school. I can tell they are very excited about what else is to come in Pre-Kindergarten!

We have spent the last few weeks really going over our schedules, transitions, and what is expected of a good Pre-Kindergarten friend at Rohan Woods. We introduced our classroom jobs and students have been watching the modeling for these certain roles. Some jobs include Messenger, Weather Reporter, Line Leader, Calendar Helper, and Snack Helper. The kids take these jobs quite seriously.  I am already very proud of their willingness to help and their hard work! We also spent a lot of time talking about our first theme, All About Me! Pre-K students were interviewed by Ms. Kittler. They shared about their families and their favorite things. We also have been reading lots of books about our five senses and what makes us the same and different! We practiced our counting by making a graph that represented how many letters are in our names! Additionally, we went hunting for letters in our Sensory Table that was full of beans! I can’t wait to see what else these learners do this year!

Pre-K students have loved getting to know their Buddies in 2nd Grade. They have really enjoyed playing with them and doing fun projects and activities! The second graders have been such awesome role models to us! We have also really enjoyed our special time to play with our EC and JK friends during the day.

Please mark your calendar on Thursday, September 13th! It is our Curriculum Night for parents to attend. I will be talking about a typical day in Pre-Kindergarten and what students will be learning this year!

Best,

Jessica Kittler

Wow the year has flown by!

Pre-Kindergarten has began their spring units. They have learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly, how insects have three body parts and six legs. As the school year draws to an end, the students will finish their handwriting workbooks and journals. They will review letter sounds and continue on their reading levels, whether it’s blending sounds or reading short stories. In Math the students will practice more than/less than, bigger/smaller, and so on. The last month of school is extra fun because we get to go out to the outdoor classroom a bunch and take lessons outside!

Have a great day!

Pre-Kindergarten has had a great first week back from Spring Break!

Every one fell back into routines easily and quickly. We briefly discussed Easter and eggs and learned all about the letter X. The kids have been working so hard on writing all the letters in the alphabet. The students are also working on journals. Each page of the journal has a different question and the students have to answer the question then draw a picture that matches their answer. Pre-Kindergarteners also have Orbeez in the sensory table now too! The students are LOVING it! We have a busy spring coming with lots to learn about flowers, seasons, and bugs!

Have a wonderful day!

Sincerely
Miss Moore

Pre-Kindergarten is happy to be back in school!

We started our unit on The Mitten by Jan Brett this week. In this unit, we are working on sequencing and story retelling. We also touch on the various animals that live in the cold weather. The students will also learn letters M, N, and O in the coming weeks. During the last weeks of this trimester, the students will work on being kind to each other and practice resolving conflict among peers. They also will perfect the morning routine which includes: independently taking the parent pouch out of their backpack and putting it where it belongs, moving their name over to show their presence at school, and choosing a center. Second semester is time for the Pre-Kindergarteners to start preparing for Junior Kindergarten.

Sincerely,
Miss Moore
