Helen Towles Rohan and Mary Woods founded Rohan Woods School in 1937. The School doors opened that first year to 12 students and classes were held in a house at 8001 Delmar Boulevard in University City. Mrs. Woods retired in 1952 and Mrs. Rohan continued to lead the School for the next 32 years.
In 1957, Rohan Woods outgrew its quarters and moved to a farmhouse at 11735 Olive Street Road in Creve Coeur. When Mrs. Rohan retired as Head of School in 1984, the School was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation and moved to its present location in Warson Woods. Dr. Linda Graves Fouke was Headmistress from 1984 to 1987; Mr. Robert Ciampoli was Headmaster of Rohan Woods from 1987 to 2003. Mr. Kelly Horn is the current Head of School.
In 1997, the School received the Blue Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education. This program selects winners based on excellence in academic programs, community involvement and parental participation. The School’s attention to leadership education was rewarded in 2007 as Rohan Woods was honored with the Champions of Character Award presented by the St. Louis Cardinals and the Cooperating School District.
In 1998, the School completed a major building renovation, creating a Learning Center in the core of the building with a gymnasium, art, music, computer lab, foreign language, and science rooms. Rohan Woods School has recently embarked on an effort to raise $3.5 million in endowed funds to ensure the School’s future.
